Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble is a unique course that combines academic study with participation in the Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble. Students engage with the dance both as scholars and as performers. Through readings, discussion, reflection, and movement, students explore Middle Eastern dance as a cultural, historical, artistic, and social practice, developing the knowledge and awareness needed to become informed dancers.Through rehearsals, performances, and shared responsibility for the ensemble, students develop their dance, organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Together, these experiences prepare students to become thoughtful stewards of Middle Eastern dance within the Berea College community, representing and sharing the dance with knowledge, respect, and integrity.
